AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY

ASSAULT

The number of victims of Assault in the Australian Capital Territory increased by 9% from 1,728 victims in 2014 to 1,883 in 2015. (Table 31)

Over a quarter (27%) of victims of Assault were aged between 25 and 34 years (503 victims). Males accounted for a higher proportion (56%) of victims than females (44%). (Table 31)

Female victims of Assault were almost twice as likely as male victims to have reported that they knew the offender (82% compared to 43%). Conversely male victims were three times more likely than female victims to have reported assault by a stranger (33% compared to 11%). (Table 32)

Over half of all male victims of Assault (51%) experienced victimisation at a community location (534 victims); whilst female victims most commonly experienced Assault at a residential location (60% or 495 victims). (Table 33)


ROBBERY

In 2015, the number of victims of Robbery decreased by 21% (35 victims) in the Australian Capital Territory, to its lowest level since the start of the time series in 2010. (Table 6)

For around half of the 133 victims of Robbery, the offence occurred on a street or footpath (49% or 65 victims) and more than two thirds of victims reported that a weapon was used (65% or 86 victims).

The most common weapon used was a knife (32% or 43 victims). (Table 9)


MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT

The number of victims of Motor vehicle theft increased by 29% in the Australian Capital Territory; from 753 victims in 2014 to 969 victims in 2015. (Table 6)

Over half (55%) of all incidents of Motor vehicle theft occurred at a community location (531 victims), while one third (33%) occurred at a residential location (323 victims). (Table 8)


OTHER THEFT

In 2015, the number of victims of Other theft increased by 21% in the Australian Capital Territory to reach its highest level since 2010, following a four year decrease. (Table 6)

Of the 10,759 victims of Other theft recorded in the Australian Capital Territory in 2015, 2,975 (28%) occurred at a retail location and 2,946 (27%) occurred at a residential location. (Table 8)
